Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been President of Turkey since 28 August 2014. He was Mayor of Istanbul from 1994 to 1998 and Prime Minister from 2003 to 2014, and has led the Justice and Development Party (AKP) since 2017, having previously done so from 2001 to 2014.[2]
