Head of state and government
VerifiedThe official biography gives his election date (24 August 2017) but not the date he took office; the start date is from Wikipedia.
Titles are Govpedia's English translations of the official Portuguese titles on governo.gov.ao; appointment dates are the nomination dates the portal gives. The Defence title follows the portal ('Defesa Nacional e Veteranos da Pátria'); Rádio Nacional de Angola gives the longer form 'Defesa Nacional, Antigos Combatentes e Veteranos da Pátria'. The CIA World Leaders list (updated 12 May 2026) is out of date for Angola (for example it still shows Eugénio Laborinho at Interior) and was not used. Party affiliation is recorded only where a source opened states it. The Secretary of the Council of Ministers and secretaries of state are not listed.
Angola is a presidential republic[1]. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, is both head of state and head of government[3][4][5]. Govpedia records 30 members of its cabinet.
